Loudoun’s favorite holiday events return this year with new additions mixed with the annual traditions. After experiencing a calm December last year, this time around there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the holiday cheer. As the pandemic continues, and with caution, many events are unfolding outside with the potential to be masked and socially distanced.
Here is a roundup of the events not to be missed this holiday season:
Tinsel! Outdoor Festival is an interactive experience featuring thousands of lights and festive stages. The event runs until January 22. Tickets start at $ 22 for adults and $ 15 for children. Tinsel has teamed up with the Washington Capitals, so there’s a hockey-themed aspect to the event as well. Activities and craft demonstrations complete the event. $ 1 from each ticket purchased will support the Inova Health Foundation. Tinsel! Ashburn Ice House, with Capital Theater on Ice, will present an ice adaptation of “Fantasia” on December 17 at 6 pm and December 18 at 5 pm. Skaters of all ages and abilities will take participants on a musical journey on ice. There will also be a special performance by the new 2022 Ashburn Ice House National Juvenile Women’s Champion. Performances will take place at the on Ice House, 21595 Smith Switch Road, Ashburn. Illuminated holiday road display
The illuminated Holiday Road signage in Morven Park is a new event in Leesburg and runs until January 2. Tickets start at $ 29.99. This is an almost three-quarter-mile walking tour around Morven Park. The experience begins and ends with food and drink vendors as well as live music. 17195 Southern Planter Ln., Leesburg. Based on the beloved classic holiday movie, the Briar Woods High School Theater will present “Elf, the Musical” December 9-11 at 7:00 p.m. and December 11-12 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $ 10. 22525 Belmont Ridge Road, Ashburn.
On Saturday, December 11, the Town of Hillsboro will host a Christmas Market with local artisans and food vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 37098 Charles Town Pike, Hillsboro. Oldstoneschool.org.
Christmas beer day
Also on December 11, a short drive from Hillsboro in Wheatland is Christmas Lager Day – a holiday market held at Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guest breweries include Halfway Crooks, Oxbow, Schilling and a new Wheatland Spring lager release. The selling partners will offer handcrafted products. There will be a silent auction and a raffle with all proceeds going to the INOVA Children’s Hospital. On December 11, there are two local holiday parades in Leesburg and Purcellville. The Purcellville Parade begins at noon at Blue Ridge Middle School. Fa-la-la Holiday pop-up bar
When all else fails, a great way to get into the holiday spirit is to head to the pop-up Fa-la-la Holiday bar on Loudoun Street in Leesburg.
