Can’t wait for Christmas? You’re not alone.

This is why the revelers of Abbeville have something to celebrate. The Christmas parade will begin at 11 a.m. on December 11.

As of Friday, up to 30 attendees had registered, including Abbeville High School cheerleaders, the American Legion, Abbeville Baptist Church, WCTEL and Commercial Printing. And of course, Santa Claus. Special Events Coordinator Emily Bledsoe said interested attendees can fill out a form on the city’s website or on the Facebook page. There is no registration fee to participate.

The 12th Abbeville Rotary Club Reindeer Run 5K takes place at 8:30 a.m. on December 11. The cost is $ 20 for runners and $ 15 for walkers and anyone under the age of 18. Bicycles are welcome. Running shirts cost $ 10. The race supports the Angel Tree Bicycle Fund.

It starts at Abbeville First Bank, 205 S. Main St., goes north on Main Street to the Abbeville County Library and returns to the bank, coordinator Andy Timmerman said.

The best male and female runners will win a cash prize and the school with the most runners will be honored, he said. The race typically attracts up to 75 participants.

People can register with the bank or the Grand Abbeville Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 864-366-2158 or visit facebook.com/abbevillerotary.

The cost is $ 5 per person with a maximum of five people for each team. Half of the money goes to the winning team, with the other half going to help a family in need have a Merry Christmas. As a bonus, one point will be added to a team’s total for each toy contributed to the profit, up to a maximum of 5 points added per team.
