Last October, the Mayo Clinic Health System held a blood drive in honor of cancer patient Tara Molling. As Molling now recovers from her stem cell transplant, another campaign is underway to celebrate the season of giving and supporting patients like her.
The reader, again hosted by Mayo and conducted by Versiti Blood Center, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Radisson Hotel Ballroom, 200 Second St. S. Donors will receive a gift card electronic $ 10 and will be entered in Versiti’s Drive to Save Lives contest for a chance to win an SUV.
Molling, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that forms in blood cells, relied on blood transfusions during her treatment in May 2021, and this fall underwent a stem cell transplant in Mayo Rochester.
This week, Molling provided an update on her health, sharing: “I am happy to report that I have been doing well since arriving home after the transplant. I have been home for almost a month now and am very grateful to always feel good and to regain my strength. “
Molling will have her 100-day post-transplant check-up, complete with blood test and bone marrow biopsy, on February 1 and “pray for remission.”
“I have so much to be thankful for this holiday season because it has been a year that has tested (everyone) like no other,” Molling said. “Thank you again to all of you who have been there for me and our family throughout this journey in so many different ways.”
The demand for blood is high and Molling encourages “anyone interested in giving our community one more gift for the holidays” to donate. To register, visit bit.ly/givebackdec22 or call 877-232-4376.
