Holiday season

Five things to do this holiday season | newswindsoriteDOTca

We think it goes without saying that everyone is looking forward to a bit of downtime this holiday season as 2021 draws to a close. And while things look different this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t find a few ways to enjoy the final weeks of the year. We’ve rounded up five great ways to enjoy the last half of December and prepare for the arrival of a new year.

SHOP LOCAL FOR LAST MINUTE GIFTS AND SOCKS

Local merchants and small businesses still need our support! Many offer virtual shopping experiences, curbside pickup, or local delivery and shipping to help you find that perfect little something even when we can’t shop in-store! So make this list and double check it, then let our local makers, artisans and retailers help you make some spirits shine! Why not anticipate! Gift cards for future services like haircuts, manicures, massages, and fitness classes are also great ways to support our local businesses and show someone (or yourself!) ) that you care about them. If you’re out of ideas, let us help you with our 2021 holiday gift guide!

PRINT SOME LOCAL LIGHTS

Grab the family and some hot chocolate and hop in the car to cruise the streets! There are FOUR festivals of light to be enjoyed throughout the region, including:

  • Bright Lights Windsor until January 9 at Jackson Park
  • Kingsville Fantasy of Lights until January 1 at Lakeside Park
  • LaSalle Holiday Lights until January 9 at the LaSalle Civic Center
  • River Lights Winter Festival until December 31 in downtown Amherstburg

You can check out all the details on our holiday lights guide which lists where you can find bright lights in Windsor Essex streets, parks and more. It also includes displays for home and other communities. Download the maps and games to make light cruising your family’s new favorite vacation activity!

ORDER FOR MOVIE NIGHT

One of our favorite traditions is Holiday Movie Night with a mix of classics, cartoons and new soft romantic comedies. It’s the perfect excuse to call your favorite restaurant(s) and order takeout! Use our handy takeout and delivery guide to plan your festive feast! While we’re talking about cooking (or rather, not cooking), check out our guide to holiday dining and catering where our local restaurants, chefs and caterers offer holiday meals that are both family-friendly and individually wrapped to save you the hassle and pretty much guarantee you’ll love your holiday meal. With options for warm and serve, brunch, dinner and more, you’ll be happy to volunteer to do the dishes all year round!

SHOP A LOCAL MARKET

If you’re looking for unique, handmade products, head over to our local market and craft events and support the locals. Discover our WE Made It Market Guide for a list of events happening throughout the region featuring local artisans and makers. Along with finding the perfect gift – you’ll also be supporting a local small business and entrepreneur, and most of the time it’s a unique gift you’ll be giving!
