Glebe House Plans Vacation Sale, Wassail | Community events

WOODBURY – The Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden are planning two holiday events. An old-fashioned Wassail is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 3. The rainy date is Friday December 10th. Traditional wassail is a drink made from hot cider and spices, drunk as an integral part of wassailing, an ancient drinking and Christmas carol ritual that involved “charitable” donations to ensure a good harvest of apples year round. next.

Dress in warm, festive clothes and join the Glebe House for an outdoor holiday celebration. Gather around a warm fire and enjoy a hot drink while listening to the sounds of the season.

The ground floor of the Glebe House Museum will be furnished for the holidays, open to visitors and the purchase of holiday decorations. Each guest will receive a box of goodies and a choice of beverages, including hot wassail, hot chocolate, apple cider and sparkling water.

Enjoy Christmas carols and the company of friends and neighbors and celebrate the joys of the season.

The Yuletide Singers of New York will delight, dressed in their finest Dickensian attire, as they share the season’s most beloved Christmas carols.

An open house and holiday store are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 4.

Learn about the life of a Woodbury family during the Revolutionary War as the Marshall family prepare for the holidays.

The museum will be decorated with Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands and many unique decorations that can be purchased. Costumed guides will lead visitors through the ground floor of the house while young guides will make pomander balls and demonstrate pen writing.

Find this unique decoration or special gift at the Tent Outdoor Holiday Store in Jekyll Garden. Vintage and handmade items will be available for purchase. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

In the event of bad weather, the Holiday Shoppe will be moved indoors.

Admission is free, donations will be gratefully accepted.

Visitors are requested to wear masks inside the museum.
