The “no vacancy” issue raised in Luke 2:7 “There was no room for them in the inn” will not be an issue this holiday season in Saugeen Shores as the Super 8 by Wyndham Port Elgin continues to offer a free one-bedroom vacation to anyone visiting a loved one in hospital or a long-term care facility in Saugeen Shores.

Although only one guest accepted the offer last year, Super 8 general manager Jenn Cortan said even one makes the Rooms at the Inn program worthwhile, adding that guest of the year last was a grateful young man visiting his family.

The program offers a free one-night stay over Christmas, either December 24 or 25. To reserve free rooms at the hostel, call Jenn Cortan at 519-832-2058.

Celebrating the season at the Super 8 this year includes a new toy drive to help fill the baskets for the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas campaign.

“There is a great need in the community and we wanted to focus on what the kids in the community need this year,” GM Cortan said in a Dec. 9 phone interview.

Cortan said generous donors have already filled two collection boxes in the lobby with toys, gift certificates and about $100 in cash. Anyone who donates a toy receives a $24 motel gift certificate.

Super 8 will be serving free hot chocolate and chilli from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., during a pop-up event at the Sun Motel. December 12.

As they gear up for the holiday season, the Super 8 staff just scored a victory in the travel industry – they won a Trip Advisor Travelers Award as a top rated hotel – earning ratings high for the well-maintained grounds and the friendly, efficient staff.
