BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The holiday season is upon us, and it’s very evident on the east coast.
The town of Daphne held its annual Christmas tree lighting celebration.
Those from Daphne, including Annice Sledge, say it’s the celebration of the season for everyone in town.
“We’re from Daphne – born and raised here, and it’s like tonight’s event,” Sledge said.
Olde Town Daphne was packed for the Christmas tree lighting. The little ones were even more thrilled to see the Disney Princesses, ride the train and have the chance to drop off their wish lists for Santa.
If you’re wondering what some of the kids have been asking for, Ian Port and Brady Botter have shared some of the items on their wishlists.
“A remote-controlled drone!” Port Said. “Uno triple play and 5 mini mysteries!” Botter said.
Down the street at Fairhope Pier, a celebration was held for the 5th day of Chanukah. According to Rabbi Yosef Goldwasser, this is such a special occasion to freely celebrate religious freedom.
“Everyone should be able to celebrate God wherever they are,” Goldwasser said. “With Jewish history with so much persecution in our history, being able to celebrate Judaism in the streets is beautiful.”
The Chanukah holiday is far from over.
“On Sunday we’re going to have a parade with menorahs over the cars from Mobile to the east coast,” Goldwasser said.
