The Jonesborough Repertory Theater is happily presenting Irving Berlin’s “Holiday Inn” this holiday season.

The musical, based on the 1942 film starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, is the perfect love story for the holidays to kick off the Christmas season.

Holiday Inn” is the story of artist Jim Hardy (played by Joe Gumina) who leaves the splendor of show business and his partners Lila and Ted (Diane Taveau, Lucas Schmidt) to pursue his dream of a more lifelong life. simple.

He moved to a foreclosed farm in rural Connecticut. There, he meets Linda Mason (Brittany Whitson), a local schoolteacher and former owner of the farm, who is on her own complicated life path.

After several unsuccessful agricultural attempts, they collaborate to transform the farm into an inn open only on public holidays.

“This show is all about trying to be true to yourself,” said Diane Taveau. “Each of the characters has a chance to become who they really want to be.”

The backdrop for the characters’ self-discovery stories is the well-known music of Irving Berlin.

Each holiday celebrated at the inn is represented by his beloved compositions.

“The most wonderful thing about this show is the music,” said director and cast member Jennifer Ross-Bernhardt. “One of our most beloved Christmas songs, ‘White Christmas’, is from the movie.

Plus, as many people know, Irving Berlin was an immigrant and he was so grateful for his life in America.

From this gratitude was born one of our most patriotic tunes, “Song of Freedom”. He embodies America and our freedom.
