PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – ImpactLife in Peoria faces less blood donation compared to the actual need for blood. WMBD Partners With ImpactLife With A Blood Drive To Help Increase Donations During The Holidays.
“During the holiday season, we usually have fewer dedicated blood drives and fewer donors coming in to donate,” said Cassandra Schoonover, Donor Relations Consultant at ImpactLife.
She said that with the increasingly busy season for many, some are waiting until after the holidays to donate blood.
“The important thing to remember is that these patients who need these vital blood products cannot wait until after the holiday season,” she said. “So it’s really imperative that people go out and donate before the holidays.”
Currently, ImpactLife’s blood requirement is 3,600 units to meet the needs of patients in hospitals. Schoonover said projections for the next few weeks show less than needed supply.
She said the recent devastation in the southern states due to storm damage proves how vital it is to have a constant blood supply.
WMBD and ImpactLife are teaming up to host a blood drive on December 20 in the ballroom inside the casino at the Par-a-Dice Hotel. This will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Although appointments are necessary, Schoonover said there are plenty of places available.
“This is a great time to give back, you know, aside from those monetary things we can do over the holidays and those wellness things, it’s another great way to give back to your community by donating blood and giving back. by saving lives, ”said Schoonover.
